Java is not functioning on my PC. How do I reinstall Java completely?

R
Answer by Robert Polubinski

First thing to do is to completely wipe Java. Use the automatic uninstaller. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a program. Locate the Java entry and remove it completely.

After this procedure, install Revo Uninstaller and locate any other Java leftovers. Revo will delete registry items and leftover files in various directories.

Additionally, use the uninstaller tool from their official website: https://www.java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp

Once all the processes completed, restart your computer and then re-install Java Runtime using the following page: https://java.com/en/download/

No, Java can't be used with Chrome any more. Starting from version 42, Chrome doesn't have support for NPAPI plugins. If you have an older version of Chrome, open a new tab and type chrome://flags. Press CTRL + F and then type NPAPI. Enable the feature and restart the browser.

Latest version is 7 Update 51 and it's compatible with Windows 8. You can download it from the official website. Make sure that you're logged with an Administrator user before starting the installation.

It's stated on the official website that Java 7 is compatible with the Windows 8 operating system for both x32 and x64 architectures:

"Windows 8 is officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10. Java will only be supported in Desktop screen. Java will not run in the Start screen".

You can run Java Uninstall Tool to remove Java installation from your computer. Then you can install Java normally. This tool will automatically remove Java and its associated files that can be removed.

I heard from some computer engineers about Java updating some time back. They told me not to install recent Java updates on computer because it may cause some problems. Is it true? Same thing was told to 2-3 friends of mine also by some computer engineers / technicians that they should not install new Java updates on their computer. Is it true? I don't know whether I should install Java updates or not.

Answer by Pete Clapp

Java updates may cause problems with certain sophisticated applications that are entirely Java based. If you don't use applications of that type, you are safe to install latest Java updates as it's OK. Make sure that when the installation takes place to disable Ask Toolbar.

I can't enter Infolanka Chat Room because I can't connect to the server. Can you help me?

A
Answer by Alex Urbach

I have accessed the website with the chat rooms and it's working just right. You can access it too using the official website. Input your name and then you should be able to connect. Unfortunately, it appears that the chat rooms are empty. There are no people chatting when I've checked it. Make sure you have the latest Java Runtime installed.

Answer by Dan Angel

You receive this message, because some of the Java files are missing or corrupted. In order to solve the issue, navigate to the official web page, click the red Free Java Download button, save the file to your computer and install it following the on-screen instructions. If you still have issues, I suggest you contact the Support team.

Java and Sun MicroSystems have been acquired by Oracle. A difference is seen with the new improvements that Oracle implemented in Java.
